TEAM-CBT · how CBT works

Change how you think, and you change how you feel

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is among the most widely researched approaches in the helping professions. It rests on a simple idea: the way we think about a situation shapes how we feel and what we do.

When we’re struggling, our minds can fall into patterns — all-or-nothing thinking, harsh self-criticism, expecting the worst — that make painful feelings stronger. Together we notice those patterns, test whether they’re really true, and practice healthier, more accurate ways of thinking and responding.

The skills you learn keep working long after sessions end.

Our approach

What is TEAM-CBT?

TEAM-CBT is a refinement of CBT developed by Dr. David D. Burns, author of Feeling Good and Feeling Great. It keeps CBT’s proven tools and adds a strong focus on the working relationship and on measuring progress every session.

T

Testing

A brief mood check before and after each session shows what’s actually helping — no guessing.

E

Empathy

We take time to truly understand what you’re going through, and you rate each session so you always have a voice.

A

Agenda Setting

Change can feel hard for good reasons. We honor any hesitation and agree together on what to work on.

M

We choose from a large toolbox of CBT techniques the ones that fit you and your goals.
